Mrs S Cafe - Maylands, WA

Last Sunday I met up with my friend A for a light breakfast at the Mrs S Cafe in Maylands.
The place was very popular but i managed to snag a table inside and settled in to admire the bits and bobs that were displayed across the room. Something new to look no matter where you looked.
The decor was very eclectic and the atmosphere was liking visiting grandmas house for breakfast as a kid. The staff were friendly and there was quite a lot of seating inside and out.
The menus were cute as they were printed on paper and pegged to the inside of old hardback children books.

I was after something light for breakfast this morning as i had a lot of naughty food the night before.
I had the Rose and Berry Pannacotta
$18.50
It was a combination of seasonal fresh fruits, pistachio, fruit jam, organic yogurt and quinoa-almond crumble. The rose was a very prominent flavour and smell to the dish which was unusual for me as I've never really eaten anything that was rose flavoured before.
Either way it was a delightful surprise.
The fresh fruit was deliciously sweet and delicate and the colours of the dish popped and reminded me of spring flowers.

A decided to have Eggs Benedict on Toasted Brioche with added Chorizo
$18.50
This was lightly saute spinach, poached eggs, cayenne and hollandaise sauce with chorizo.
For someone that doesn't normal like hollandaise sauce, A was taking a gamble and it paid off.
The hollandaise sauce was really good and the chorizo was the best part of the dish.

The Shipping Lane - North Fremantle, WA

Me and my man Keelan visited The Shipping Lane in North Fremantle for a late breakfast on Saturday morning.
After my usual boxing class in the morning, i was starving by the time we reached the cafe.
We were greeted by the sweet salt smell of the ocean and the smiling faces of the staff. The cafe was pretty busy but can only be expected at so late in the morning but we were seated at a table overlooking the beach.

Iced Coffee for me and a Strawberry lemonade for Keels Approx $7.00 each

The menu was full of many wonderful choices making it hard to decide.
For me:
Baked Beans & spicy chorizo, homemade sun-dried tomato sauce, sweet potato, poached egg, truffle oil & feta with sourdough.
$19.00
This had a spicy kick! It was the perfect temperature when it arrived a the table and could be eaten straight away without burning your entire mouth. The egg was perfectly oozy and the chorizo gave it a spicy crunch. The sweet potato made a good texture combination with the baked beans.

For Keels:
The Shipping Lane Breakfast: bacon, chorizo, grilled haloumi & semi-dried tomatoes, poached eggs, hash brown, greens & avocado with sourdough bread.
$24.00
This was a monster of a breakfast. Perfect for a mans appetite!
The eggs again were oozy with perfection and the crunchy hash brown with the grilled haloumi cheese was amazing. Filled up the stomach quickly!

The Shipping Lane is located at 4/1 Freeman Loop, North Fremantle

Wed: 7am-10pm

All in all the atmosphere of the place was beachy and even including the frame of a shipping container was very smartly placed. The cafe is open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Plenty of seating, including outside tables with the beach wind in your hair.

The Panke - Victoria Park, WA

After an intense boxing class at the gym J and I set off to meet our friend K for a scrumptious breakfast that made all that hard work and sweat worth it.
The original plan was to visit another cafe in the area but due to the popularity and lack of seating, the place was too busy.
We went for a short drive down the road and spotted The Panke. Pancakes and Steak House.
Interest concept. The word Pancake sold me immediately.

We were welcomed by friendly staff and were seated in a booth. Immediately my little kid senses went into overload when we saw the hotplate in the centre of the table!
This place offered you to be able to cook your own pancakes with the toppings you desire!
Of course one of us had to try it!

And J it was!
Below is the DIY pancakes for $17 and a skinny latte for $4
Buttermilk mixture with strawberries, banana and shredded coconut.
The squeeze bottle made things easy and less messy. It provided the option to make the pancakes as big or small, thick or thin, cooked or uncooked as you liked. Being able to add as much topping as you like helped suit the desired taste. There was so much mixture for one person though. J struggled to get through it all but it was fresh and delicious.

J & K had the brilliant idea of writing Breakfast bliss in pancake mixture.
See the perfect result below.

K had the Hash Brown deal for $13 and her normal Long Mac topped up for $4
This included, a buttermilk pancake, egg, bacon, hash brown,
roasted tomato and a side of golden syrup.
Everything in this meal was good!
Maple syrup instead of golden syrup would have made a better combination but over all it filled a hungry stomach! The pancake was fresh and fluffy.

I had the Sun-Up Treat for $13 and a iced coffee for $5
This included one buttermilk pancake, hash brown, scrambled eggs, bacon and grilled pineapple.
Being a huge fan of anything with pineapple in it, it was the obvious choice for me!
It made the perfect bit of sweetness to the meal. Bacon was crispy but eggs were a little dry.

Due to my Brain being mush after a hard work out, we got side tracked and i didn't get to take a photo of the place. But the atmosphere was friendly, professional and it was a enjoyable breakfast.
The only thing i would mention is the Cafe itself is quite dark due to the dark colour paint and furnishings. Not alot of natural light.

The Panke is located at
404 Albany Highway, Victoria Park

Thu-Fri 8am - 2pm & 6pm - 9pm
